Here are some more details about what we are looking for in a teen volunteer this summer:

We are looking for fifteen (15) young adults (who will be entering 7th grade and up) to volunteer for two (2) hours per week between June 26th and August 4th, 2006, for a total of ten (10) hours. Preference will be given to Williston Park residents.

To sign up, early registration is available on Monday, June 5th, for young adults who will be using this as their Community Service for Confirmation, and open registration begins on Tuesday, June 6th. You must come in person. All registrants must attend a mandatory Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, June 13th, at 4:00 PM in the Assembly Room of the Village Hall, and be prepared to sign up for specific days.

Volunteer times between June 26th and August 4th:

Mondays - 7:00 PM-8:00 PM
Tuesdays - 4:00 PM-5:00 PM
Wednesdays - 7:00 PM-8:00 PM
Thursdays - 4:00 PM-5:00 PM
Fridays - 4:00 PM-5:00 PM

Here are the responsibilities:

1. The major responsibility of a volunteer is to promote a love of books by reading to young children.
2. Volunteers must sign up for a minimum of two (2) hours per week.
3. Volunteers must sign in at each session they attend.
4. Volunteers will participate in a Read-To-Me Program. Each volunteer will select a book to read to the children who attend the story sessions. The Children's Librarian will help with the selection of age-appropriate books.
5. Volunteers will be welcome at the Pool Party on Tuesday, August 8th, 2006. Volunteers should be aware that they will be asked to help with the tickets and refreshments, etc.

We will have a special treat for the volunteers who complete ten (10) hours of service. Details will follow.
